Box office: ‘Talaash’ and ‘Khiladi 786’ fall short of 100 crore club!
‘Talaash’ and ‘Khiladi 786’ are superhits, but not in 100 crore club

There is a lull at the box office before the release of Salman Khan’s film Dabangg 2 on December 21. However, the last two big releases -- Talaash and Khiladi 786 -- that could have made the most from the lull have missed the bus.
Aamir Khan’s Talaash opened well at the BO, and still continues to do well at some centres. The film did exceptionally well especially in its first week, and from its 18-day run has managed a total of Rs 85 crore. It’s unlikely that the film can add 15 more crores to its kitty to scrape into the 100 crore club in the coming days.
Talking about the film, a source tells a daily, “Suspense films have a limited shelf life. Talaash was a high-price acquisition for the studio that bankrolled it. So while the box office numbers are fairly good, the acquisition cost is too high for the studio to rejoice.”
Then too, Talaash is a superhit, and also one of the best films of 2012. Moving on to Khiladi 786, the movie opened to mixed responses. As per insiders, the film was a letdown, and the only reason why it raked in the moolah was Akshay Kumar.
Khiladi 786 may not have had a good run at the multiplexes but it fared well on the single screens. Reportedly, the collections of the film are average in India and overseas. It collected approximately Rs 60 crore from its 11-day run at the BO. Nevertheless, Khiladi 786 is another feather in Akki’s cap!
We already talked about the BO lull; it’ll end with the Dabangg 2 storm!
