BAFTA 2013 nominations: 'Lincoln' leads, 'Life Of Pi' follows closely
Steven Spielberg’s historical biopic Lincoln leads the BAFTA nominations with ten nods, followed by Life Of Pi and Les Miserables with nine nods each.

Lincoln, a biopic on US president Abraham Lincoln and his struggles during the Civil War, has bagged the maximum nominations across 10 categories for BAFTA 2013. Les Miserables and Life Of Pi follow closely with nine nominations each.

"Lincoln" also made it to the top nominated movie for the Golden Globe awards this year, and is likely to be a strong contender at the Oscars too.

For BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts), the Steven Spielberg directed "Lincoln", has been nominated for best film, adapted screenplay, original music, cinematography, production design, costume design and make-up and hair. Daniel Day-Lewis has been nominated for leading actor, Tommy Lee Jones for supporting actor and Sally Field for supporting actress.

"Les Miserables", directed by Tom Hooper, and Ang Lee directed "Life of Pi" have got nine nominations each.

Skyfall has eight nominations, Argo has seven nominations and "Anna Karenina" has six, while Django Unchained and Zero Dark Thirty have five nominations each.

"The Master" and "Amour" have four nods each. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and Silver Linings Playbook have each been nominated three times, and "Hitchcock", "Rust and Bone", "The Imposter" and "McCullin" have two nominations each.

Along with "Lincoln", movies like "Les Miserables", "Life Of Pi", "Argo" and "Zero Dark Thirty" are competing in the best film category.

Those vying for the best actor title include Hugh Jackman ("Les Miserables"), Ben Affleck ("Argo"), Bradley Cooper ("Silver Linings Playbook"), Joaquin Phoenix ("The Master") and Day-Lewis for "Lincoln".

For the best actress honour, Emmanuelle Riva ("Amour"), Helen Mirren ("Hitchcock"), Jennifer Lawrence ("Silver Linings Playbook"), Jessica Chastain ("Zero Dark Thirty") and Marion Cottilard ("Rust and Bone") are in competition.

The nominees in the best director category are Michael Haneke ("Amour"), Ben Affleck ("Argo"), Quentin Tarantino ("Django Unchained"), Ang Lee ("Life Of Pi") and Kathryn Bigelow ("Zero Dark Thirty").

The nominees for the Rising Star Award, announced earlier this week, are Elizabeth Olsen, Andrea Riseborough, Suraj Sharma, Juno Temple and Alicia Vikander. This audience award is voted for by the British public and presented to an actor or actress who has demonstrated exceptional talent and promise.

The British Academy Film Awards will be held Feb 10 at London's Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
