Indian origin contestant, a Punjabi boy named Gurpreet Singh Sarin has found a place in ‘American Idol’. Gurpreet aka Turbanator impressed the four judges -- Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson -- with his mellow voice.
During the audition, Gurpreet wowed the four judges with a wonderful rendition of the Maroon 5 hit Sunday Morning. Later Randy Jackson asked him to sing something in Indian classical, and the boy successfully sang an Indian raga for him. (Don’t miss the video below)
Mariah Carey was the first to vote him ‘yes’, Jackson too was moved by Gurpreet’s voice and disarming charm. However, Keith Urban sounded skeptical about him and said his voice, though good, is too light, but with Nicki Minaj’s confirmation, Gurpreet breathed a sigh of relief and jumped with joy over getting the ticket to Hollywood. The 22-year-old college boy even cajoled Nicki with his talk of a bright marigold turban that matches her hair.
Before going in for the audition, Gurpreet Singh Sarin even taught the Emmy-award winning host Ryan Seacrest a Bhangra step.
Gurpreet Singh Sarin goes with the name Turbanator as he loves matching his turbans with his outfits. He has around 40-50 turbans. Let’s see what wonder this boy does at the American Idol. The show premieres on January 18.
