|The Box Office slump has begun with the onset of March as the two new releases, I Me Aur Main and The Attacks Of 26/11 fared poorly over their first weekend.
Once again, the industry is witnessing a drop in footfalls as the year clocks into March, a month when the young cinegoers normally keep away from theatres due to their exams. Little surprise then that I Me Aur Main, starring John Abraham, Chitrangada Singh and Prachi Desai, failed to make a mark despite some good publicity. The film opened to mixed response from the critics and collected just about Rs. 5.40 crore in its opening weekend, a figure not on a par with those of John’s previous releases.
The other release, The Attacks of 26/11, starring Sanjeev Jaiswal and Nana Patekar fared no better. As per estimates, the film directed by Ram Gopal Varma could mint around Rs. 5.50 crore in its first weekend. Save for Maharashtra and South India, the response to the film was quite dull.
The film has also got mixed reviews from the critics, with some putting it alongside Ram Gopal Varma’s best cinematic works, but others writing it off as insensitive, superficial and overtly violent.
The coming Friday would see the release of Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns.
