|While superstars do go a long way in pulling crowds to theatres, CONTENT is no less the king. That’s why Tigmanshu Dhulia’s searing new presentation Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns picked up over the weekend, despite a rather tepid start on Friday morning.
The film, starring Irrfan Khan, Mahie Gill, Jimmy Shergill and Soha Ali Khan, opened to a strictly average business of Rs. 3.50 crore nett on Friday, but the footfalls came in on Saturday and the collection for the day rose to Rs. 4.25 crore. More good news was in store on Sunday with the collections touching a decent Rs. 5 crore mark.
The business was best in Mumbai, NCR, and Punjab region. The total first weekend collections of Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns (SBAGR) stand at approximately Rs. 12.75 crore.
Even after considering the fall in collections that the films face on Monday, SBAGR will do thrice the business of Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster, but effect is offset by thrice as much the cost of making the sequel.
The other release of last Friday, Saare Jahaan Se Mehnga was a virtual washout at theatres.
The coming week would see the release of three films, 3G-2013, starring Neil Nitin Mukesh and Sonal Chauhan, Jolly L.L.B. starring Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani, and Mere Dad Ki Maruti, starring Saqib Saleem and Rhea Chakraborty.
