It was India’s official entry for Oscars this year and though mired in accusations of plagiarism, Barfi! was surely a film that won many hearts. The film’s leading lady Priyanka Chopra hoped it to at least get an acknowledgment at India’s National Film Awards announced in New Delhi on Monday.
Well, now that the film has missed out on bagging the National Award, the actress is unhappy.
At the launch of her first item song ‘Babli Badmaash’, Priyanka Chopra told reporters: “I am feeling bad that Barfi! did not win a National Award. But then it is up to the jury why they did not give the award.”
In the film, directed by Anurag Basu, Priyanka played an autistic girl and won a lot of praise for her performance.
Priyanka had previously won a National Award for her acting in Madhur Bhandarkar’s film Fashion. And though she has missed out winning this year for Barfi!, she’s happy that her younger cousin sister Parineeti Chopra has got a special mention at National Awards for Ishaqzaade.
“I am happy for her. Now, in the Chopra family, there are two national awards. The whole day I had to explain what special mention means,” Priyanka Chopra said.
