The 2008 IPL Champions, Rajasthan Royals, will lock horns with the defending champion, Kolkata Knight Riders, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on April 8, Monday.
The confidence levels of both sides are sky-high as they have won their opening encounters. On paper KKR looks more formidable but Royals have a terrific record at home.
A SWOT analysis of both sides will help us analyze better.
Kolkata Knight Riders:
Strengths: A well-balanced side led by an attacking leader Gautam Gamhir. Yusuf Pathan’s ability of hitting big shots with the bat, Jacques Kallis all-round skills, Brett Lee’s speed and Sunil Narine’s mystery has the potential to turn any match on its head.
Weaknesses: Yusuf Pathan can be deadly with the bat but his form is a worry.
Opportunities: A win away from home will take KKR’s confidence level to another high and will also continue the winning momentum.
Threats: Shane Watson of Rajasthan Royals can be a tough nut to crack for KKR as the all-rounder can be lethal with both bat and ball. Kevon Cooper too has the ability to bowl searing yorkers and break crucial partnerships.
Strengths: The Royals are led by an inspiring leader like Rahul Dravid. Shane Watson’s presence will bolster the side. Kevon Cooper and S Sreesanth have the ability to pick wickets and wreak havoc on any batting side.
Weakness: This team does not have a finisher with the bat. Except Watson there are not many who can finish a match.
Opportunities: A win against the reigning IPL champions will boost the morale of the side. Watson will play his first match of the IPL 2013 after an injury lay-off and he would be looking to get his form and rhythm back.
Threats: Sunil Narine could prove too good to handle for Rajasthan Royals as the mystery spinner can be lethal on a turning Sawai Mansingh track of Jaipur.
