From a college beauty in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to a strong-minded journalist in No One Killed Jessica -- Rani has excelled in the characters she essayed on big screen, and now she is all set to play a cop in her upcoming film under the Yash Raj banner.
It’s been quite a while since the audiences saw a film based on a lady cop. When actresses like Rekha (Phool Bane Angaare) or Madhuri Dixit (Khalnayak) donned the khakee, not only did they earn critical acclaim, but also won over their fans. Rani Mukerji is the latest to join the bandwagon.
The film is apparently titled Mardaani and will be directed by Pradeep Sarkar, who had directed Rani in the weepy Laaga Chunari Mein Daag. According to sources, Mardaani will be the boldest film till date to be produced by the YRF banner, and will see Rani in an all-new bold avatar.
“Starring Rani Mukerji in the lead, playing the role of a cop for the first time, the raw and gritty film will be YRF's boldest subject ever to be made and a distinct departure from Pradeep Sarkar's style of filmmaking,” Rafiq Gangjee, vice president (Marketing and Communications), YRF, said in a statement.
Also, it’s heard that Rani’s alleged beau Aditya Chopra and his team chose the actress as the script requires a strong heroine, and who else than Rani.
A versatile actress like Rani has perhaps played every kind of role in her career spanning more than fifteen years. Now finally, Rani will be seen as a police officer. Are you excited?
