Sanjay Leela Bhansali has his plans chalked out for the year. As he is about to complete the Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone-starrer Ram Leela, the director-producer will now produce the remake of Tamil blockbuster Ramana (2002) with Akshay Kumar. The remake is titled Gabbar.
While talking to a daily, Sanjay Leela Bhansali confirms the news. “We will be remaking Ramana. It's a beautiful film and I believe such cinema should reach our Hindi film-watching audience as well,” the director is quoted as saying.
Both Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Akshay Kumar are extremely excited about the project, which the director will co-produce with his friend Shabina Khan. Shabina was also his partner in Rowdy Rathore.
Wondering about the unusual title of the film? It’s Sanjay who suggested the title Gabbar. The film is about the fight against corruption, and for it the megaphone will be wielded by the South director Krish of Gamyam (2008) and Vedam (2010) fame. Gabbar will mark Krish’s debut in Bollywood.
The female lead of the film is yet to be finalized, and the makers are aiming for an “unlikely” pair. The movie will go on the floors soon.
