After Barfi!, actress Ileana D'Cruz is in big demand in Bollywood. She was signed immediately for Shahid Kapoor’s film Phata Poster Nikla Hero, and now she is the one who will romance Akshay Kumar in his forthcoming Gabbar.
Director-producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who is working again with Akshay Kumar after the blockbuster Rowdy Rathore (2012), has signed Ileana D'Cruz for Gabbar. The project is a remake of 2002 Tamil hit Ramana.
When the makers announced the film, there were talks that this time Akshay Kumar will be paired up with a new girl as they want a fresh jodi for the film. Ileana D'Cruz is not only young, but has a face value, and is a lot experienced than rest of the newcomers because she has delivered several hits down south before foraying into Bollywood.
“Akshay and Ileana’s chemistry will be interesting to watch. It is quite an unlikely pairing, which Bhansali is trying to explore,” a source tells a daily.
Gabbar marks the debut of Telugu filmmaker Radhakrishna Jagarlamudi aka Krish, and will go on the floors by the end of the year as Akki is busy with other projects. The actor has to finish Milan Luthria’s crime-thriller Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Again and also has Ashwin Varde's Boss to complete.
Akshay Kumar’s role in Gabbar is of a strong man, who fights against corruption.
