|Vidya Balan has joined the nine-member jury, also comprising of heavyweights like Nicole Kidman and Steven Spielberg, for Cannes 2013. The lovely actress was spotted arriving at The Martinez Hotel in the French Riviera for cocktails with the other jury members.
The actress has already stated that she will stick to the ethnic Indian wear at the festival, so we weren’t surprised by her choice designer: Sabyasachi Mukherjee. The Bombat Balan completely bowled us over with her first ever appearance at Cannes in an elegant Sabya anarkali, worn well with jhumkis and a matching potli bag.
It’s often said that Vidya Balan’s style is staid, but for her maiden appearance she looked fresh as a daisy in a regal maroon-and-black anarkali, paired with an opulent dupatta. A tiny little bindi, and mid-parting pulled-back hairdo was as classy as Indian.
Why Sabyasachi Mukherjee and no one else? Before leaving for Cannes, Vidya said in an interview that Sabyasachi was the first person outside her family, whom she called and informed about her Cannes trip, and motive. When Vidya said that she will need a lot of nice clothes, the designer was more than happy to lend his support. The actress will get styled by Jayati Bose, and at almost every event at the Cannes Film Festival will be seen in a Sabyasachi Mukherjee outfit.
Not only anarkalis, Vidya has also taken her trademark sarees to the festival. “I will be wearing sarees forever. My style mantra here is Indian so I am going to do the same at Cannes too,” she said.
Incidentally, Aishwarya Rai also wore a Sabyasachi saree for the red carpet at Raavan premiere, held during Cannes Film Festival 2010, and looked mesmerizing.
