It would have been the box office clash of the year. Shahrukh Khan’s much-awaited Chennai Express and Akshay Kumar’s Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Again were set to arrive at the box office on August 8. However, the Eid clash has now been averted.
The latest development is that Ekta Kapoor of Balaji Motion Pictures has postponed the release of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Again to August 15, which is a national holiday and likely to draw in a lot of footfalls.
So with a week between them, the two films have warded off the risk of eating into each other’s business.
From what we hear, the teams of Chennai Express and Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Again have been in touch and a representation was even made to Ekta Kapoor’s father Jeetendra who mediated to help both the parties reach an agreeable solution.
Moreover, the two films belong to different genres. While Chennai Express is a full-on masala fare with romance, comedy and action, OUATIMA is an underworld drama about two gangsters at loggerheads over a girl. The film features Akshay Kumar, Imran Khan and Sonakshi Sinha.
The month of August will also see the release of Prakash Jha’s film Satyagraha (on August 23) and John Abraham’s Madras Cafe (August 30)
Movie buffs better mark the dates in their calendar.
