The OMG! Oh My God director Umesh Shukla has been in a dilemma of sorts for some time now. His next movie to be produced by Bhushan Kumar is titled Mere Apne, and has Abhishek Bachchan playing the lead. But the director was confused over the choice of actress for his film, which is a family drama.
Earlier, it was reported that Asin was finalized, but the director himself denied casting her. Now, rumour has it that Umesh has approached Kareena Kapoor for the film.
According to sources, Kareena Kapoor is seriously considering the project, and had an hour-long meeting with the director. The actress is apparently so excited about the project that she doesn’t have qualms working with Abhishek Bachchan, with whom she stopped working since Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon (2003). It can be recalled that Abhishek and Kareena’s sister Karisma were engaged to get married, but Karisma backed out of the relationship. The ties between the Bachchans and the two sisters have since been strained.
In the past, Kareena Kapoor did mention in some of her interviews that she is eager to work with Abhishek Bachchan if a good script comes her way. Interestingly, the two started their Bollywood careers with the same film -- Refugee.
The movie Mere Apne also has Rishi Kapoor who will play the role of Abhishek Bachchan’s father. The film will be shot in Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, and London, and will go on the floors this September.
However, it’s yet to be confirmed if Kareena Kapoor has given her nod to the film.
