|After a pretty average start on Friday, Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan’s film Ghanchakkar didn’t show much growth over the weekend.
Director Rajkumar Gupta’s Ghanchakkar which was expected to set the cash registers ringing with its promised wackiness, failed to make the grade at ticket windows. Thumbed down by the critics, the film opened on Friday to a strictly average start of Rs. 7.20 crore net.
There was a miniscule growth in business on Saturday with a collection of Rs. 7.30 crore net. Sunday rounded off the film’s opening weekend by adding another Rs. 7.80 crore to the kitty. As you can see, the film’s graph remained, by and large, flat during its opening weekend (weekend total: 22.30 crore net), which is below the par for a film starring Emraan Hashmi or Vidya Balan.
Meanwhile, the previous week’s release Raanjhanaa, starring Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush, has moved past the Rs. 45 crore net mark at the box office after its second weekend. The film is a success, no doubt.
Another success story is the box office run of Fukrey. The film, boasting of no big stars, has emerged a sleeper hit with more than Rs. 33 crore in its kitty and still counting.
The coming Friday would see the release of the much-awaited Lootera, starring Sonakshi Sinha and Ranveer Singh. The film, directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, is expected to fetch a good opening at the box office. Another big release of the coming Friday would be Policegiri, starring Sanjay Dutt and Prachi Desai.
