Ramaiya Vastavaiya, introducing producer Kumar Taurani’s son Girish Kumar, released on 1400 screens and could manage only a paltry Rs. 3.50 crore net on its first day. The critical appraisal has been mixed, but mostly on the negative side.
The film, also starring Shruti Haasan and Sonu Sood, is directed by Prabhu Deva who has an impeccable record of delivering hits like Wanted and Rowdy Rathore in Bollywood. But it looks like Ramaiya Vastavaiya may not follow the same course. The film fared poorly in the north, but quite decently in Mumbai with a first day collection of Rs. 1.20 crore. Delhi collections lagged far behind at mere Rs. 61 lakhs.
Released on 1200 screens, the film made just Rs. 2.75 crore net on Friday. The footfalls did go up in the evening and the film is expected to do better on Saturday and Sunday. The film collected Rs. 1.04 crore in Mumbai and just Rs. 50 lakhs in Delhi.
Meanwhile, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag continued its good run and raced past Rs. 51 crore net in its first week. The film is a HIT.
