|It’s no less a casting coup of sorts -- Kareena Kapoor and Hrithik Roshan are set to scorch the big screen after ten years in Karan Johar’s production Shuddhi. Director Karan Malhotra was eager to cast the two actors, and Karan Johar made it possible for him.
According to Karan Johar, the movie is an intense love story based on the theme of reincarnation. Director Karan Malhotra, who earlier directed Agneepath, has written a dramatic script for Shuddhi, so the movie requires actors who can bring intensity on screen. KJo, being a good producer understood his vision and first talked to Hrithik Roshan. As the actor shares a great bond with both the Karans, he happily agreed to do the movie.
The talks with Kareena Kapoor were also on, but the actress came on board much later. Meanwhile, rumours suggesting Aishwarya Rai in Shuddhi were also doing the rounds.
“To me, it is really an important casting. But I don't look at it as a coup. Kareena is beautiful, talented and a powerhouse performer. And Hrithik, well, what can I say? He can melt a nation just with his eyes,'' Karan Johar is quoted as saying about the casting.
Karan has already worked with Hrithik and Kareena in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. In fact, he was the one who launched them as a couple on celluloid. Later the two did some big films like Yaadein and Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon, but none was as successful as K3G.
Over time, both Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor have emerged as terrific actors. Now it would be exciting to see how they look on silver screen in their new stylish avatars.
A theme like reincarnation has always clicked with the audience be it Rishi Kapoor’s Karz (1980) or Shahrukh Khan’s Om Shanti Om (2007). Can the makers of Shuddhi cash in on the age old subject?
