The film, directed by Rohit Shetty, raked in a whopping Rs. 6.75 crore net from the Thursday paid previews in India, breaking the previous record of Rs. 2.70 crore held by 3 Idiots. That’s not it. The film set a new record in the UK as well with 142,220 pounds on Thursday. The response is no less roaring in Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.
Chennai Express ran to packed houses in the cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai. Just yesterday, we had told you that cinemas chains in these cities were screening a record number of paid previews for the film.
On Friday morning, the film opened to housefull shows at many centres. It remains to be seen if it will turn out to be the highest first-day grosser of all time. The record is currently held by Ek Tha Tiger with Rs. 30.72 crore.
