Starring Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha and Imran Khan, Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara! was slammed by critics but lapped up by fans on its opening day. The morning shows on August 15 ran to packed houses and the occupancy didn’t dip much throughout the day.
OUATIMD hit limited screens on Thursday, a national holiday, and still managed to rake in around Rs. 11 crore net, which is a very decent figure, considering the footfalls that Chennai Express is drawing.
The film had a much wider release on Friday and the initial reports suggest it’s got an occupancy ranging between 55 percent to 65 percent.
On the other hand, Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s Chennai Express has crossed the Rs. 150 crore milestone in its first week run. The film’s collection had dipped on Monday and Tuesday, but picked up on Wednesday. Thursday saw an addition of Rs. 19.6 crore to its kitty.
The film’s first week collection stands at Rs. 156.7 crore net, making it the fourth highest grosser of all time. Now, Chennai Express has three films ahead of it in the record books: 3 Idiots (202 crore), Ek Tha Tiger (198 crore) and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (188 crore).
Trade pundits are agog to see if Chennai Express can go past Ek Tha Tiger and 3 Idiots. There is a very good chance that it may.
