The accusatory finger of plagiarism is pointing towards the music composer Lalit Pandit for ripping off an old Italian song and tweaking it as “Love Ki Ghanti” in the upcoming Ranbir Kapoor film Besharam.
‘Love Ki Ghanti’ has an uncannily same beat and rhythm as ‘Bella Ciao’, an Italian partisan song of World War II that had anti-fascist lyrics. A version of this protest song was recorded for music researchers by Italian folk singer Giovanna Daffini in 1962.
Lalit Pandit doesn’t deny the similarity in the opening of the two songs.
In the Besharam song, Ranbir Kapoor as a shameless car mechanic tells his friends about his escapades with a girl he has a crush on. The girl is played by Pallavi Sharda.
This isn’t the first time Lalit Pandit has been accused of plagiarism. He was earlier accused of lifting the ‘Munni Badnaam Hui’ tune from a Pakistani song.
