|The maverick filmmaker Tigmanshu Dhulia is planning a film on the life of Begum Samru. Presently working on the script, the director has also been searching for an actress who can do justice to the role of Begum Samru. Tigmanshu now wants Kareena Kapoor to play the lead in his period drama.
After working with Saif Ali Khan in Bullet Raja, is Tigmanshu Dhulia gearing up to direct the Nawab’s begum, Kareena? According to sources, Kareena has liked Tigmanshu’s films Paan Singh Tomar and Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster and she is eager to work with the director.
However, it’s said that Kareena was not the original choice for the film. The director had first approached Rani Mukerji for the film, but the actress reportedly turned down the offer as she has no dates to spare.
It’s even said that the character of Begum Samru was written keeping Rani Mukerji in mind, but as the lady has opted out, Dhulia has found her replacement in Kareena Kapoor.
Talking about Kareena Kapoor’s interest in the film, Tigmanshu’s official spokesperson said in a statement: “It is too early to talk about the details of the film, but Kareena is definitely excited for this film.”
The period film is said to be based on the life of Begum Samru, an 18th century nautch girl, who eventually became the ruler of Sardhana, a principality near Meerut. Samru had a crucial role to play in freedom agitation against the British during late 18th and early 19th century.
Though Rani sounds perfect for the role, can Kareena act like a mighty begum on big screen?
