Shahid Kapoor’s jinx of flop films seems to have all but ended with the latest release R… Rajkumar, which has been panned by the critics, but still registered a good opening weekend.
It’s always good to see a star come out of a lean patch and Shahid Kapoor has scored an ace with director Prabhudheva’s potboiler R… Rajkumar, which opened well on Friday with a collection of approximately Rs. 8.75 crore net. Though not a whopping figure, it’s the best opening any Shahid film has had to date. So far his highest opening was for Mausam which minted Rs. 7 crore on the opening day but then went down the slippery slope.
R… Rajkumar, however, held fort throughout the weekend. Though the footfalls did go down marginally on Saturday and the collection dipped to Rs. 8.50 crore, Sunday more than made up for the slide with a very decent Rs. 10.50 crore nett.
The opening weekend figure of R… Rajkumar is approx. Rs. 27.75 crore, which is in pretty good ballpark.
Expectedly, the film fared well at single screens, with the best response coming from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Mumbai and Bihar. Business in Delhi was slightly on the low side, though not dismal. Now, with the onset of the week, it remains to be seen if R… Rajkumar can maintain momentum and sail to the flop-safe zone. The weekend figures are par for the course.
The coming Friday would see the release of Jackpot, starring Sunny Leone and Sachiin Joshi and What The Fish, starring Dimple Kapadia.
