Yash Raj Films’ latest presentation Dhoom 3 opened to packed houses on Friday. The film has become the highest non-holiday opener ever with the Friday collections in the range of Rs. 35 crore.
Released on over 4500 prints and made on a budget of approximately Rs. 100 crores, the film starring Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif, Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra had a thundering start on Friday. The occupancy in theatres ranged from 90 percent to house full.
Tickets have been selling like hot cakes and the response is excellent for the Hindi, Tamil and Telugu versions of the film.
As per initial estimates, the film’s opening day collection could be in the range of Rs. 35 crore net, which is a terrific figure for any non-holiday opener.
The previous record for highest non-holiday opener was held by Krrish 3 which raked in Rs. 25 crore on November 1, two days before Diwali. Now, Dhoom 3 has come four days before Christmas. The film might notch a record shattering collection on Wednesday, which is Xmas holiday.
Trade pundits opine that Dhoom 3 could be a 300 crore blockbuster and the first day figures look par for the course.
Earlier this year, we have seen Chennai Express shatter box office records, only to be bettered by Krrish 3 last month. Now, Dhoom 3 looks set to go one better on Krrish 3 as well.
For now, it remains to be seen if Dhoom 3 will enter the 100 crore club in the opening weekend itself. Chances are, it will.
