Record books are being rewritten for the third time this year. This time, it’s Aamir Khan’s Dhoom 3 making an unprecedented entry into the 100 crore club within the opening weekend itself.
Three records have been shattered by Dhoom 3 in as many days. First, the film became the highest non-holiday opener on Friday with a collection of Rs. 36.22 crore net from Hindi, Tamil and Telugu versions. Saturday did see a marginal dip in the footfalls with a collection of Rs. 33.36 crore.
It’s Sunday that set the film’s collection skyrocketing again. The Hindi version alone raked in Rs. 36.09 crore net. The Tamil and Telugu versions added another 1.94 crore to the kitty, taking the Sunday aggregate to Rs. 38.03 crore, as per trade figures.
The Sunday figure stands as the highest single-day collection for any film (previously held by Krrish 3 with Rs. 35.91 crore), that’s the second record. The third record is for the highest opening weekend collection which comes to Rs. 107.61 crore.
The record was previously held by Krrish 3 and Chennai Express both of which took four days to reach the 100 crore mark.
Now it remains to be seen how many days will Dhoom 3, starring Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif, Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra, take to reach the 200 crore mark. Trade pundits expect that feat to be accomplished within the film’s first week run at theatres. Also don’t forget that Wednesday is an off (Christmas) and therefore should pull in huge crowds.
Number crunchers are also betting on Dhoom 3 making it to the 300 crore mark.
