|Great hopes are pinned to Salman Khan’s latest release Jai Ho, but the film failed to take a bumper start at the box office on Friday.
Going by the trade figures trickling in, 'Jai Ho' has minted Rs. 17.55 crore net at Indian box office. The figure, mind you, is way below the opening day collection of Krrish 3 (Rs. 25.50 crore) which, like 'Jai Ho', was a non-holiday release. What more, it is even less than the opening day collection of Ranbir Kapoor’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (Rs. 19.45 crore) which too was a non-holiday opener.
For a Salman Khan film that has been released on more than 5000 screens worldwide (of which more than 4000 are in India alone), the first day collection is below the mark as one expected a record breaking start.
Movie Review: ‘Jai Ho’ is strictly for diehard Salman Khan fans
The film starring Daisy Shah, Tabu, Danny Denzongpa, Sana Khan, Santosh Shukla and a host of other actors has received mixed reviews from the critics, with some hailing it as a surefire blockbuster, while the others questioning if ‘Jai Ho' can even be called a film.
Going by the audience response, the collection is likely to go up on Saturday and hit a peak on Sunday, which is national holiday on account of Republic Day.
Compared to Salman Khan’s previous release Dabangg 2 (Rs. 21 crore on opening day), 'Jai Ho' with its Rs. 17.55 crore has a lot of ground to cover this weekend.
