Imtiaz Ali’s film Highway, starring Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda, was never expected to have a bumper opening at the box office, but the film did fairly well in the opening weekend.
Not being a film with an appeal for the masses, Highway had a very limited release last Friday at over 700 screens. It started on a dull note with Rs. 3.42 crore net opening day business at the Indian box office. But the positive word of mouth and glowing reviews by some critics brought in more footfalls on Saturday and the film showed a decent 40 percent increase in its business with a figure of Rs. 4.80 crore. Sunday business was still better.
Meanwhile, the Yash Raj Films’ release Gunday rounded off its first week with a business of Rs. 63 crore net at Indian box office. It remains to be seen if it will enter the 100 crore club. The film can easily be termed a semi HIT.
