Lara Dutta turned producer with the movie Chalo Dilli released in 2011. A sleeper hit, the movie won accolades both from the critics as well as audiences. Overwhelmed with the response, Lara is all charged up for the sequel.
The sequel is named Chalo China, and as the name suggests it is not set in India. The movie is going to be shot across Asia, including places like Thailand, Malaysia and China, reveals Lara Dutta, who will reprise her role of a sophisticated investment banker Mihika Banerjee from the original.
According to Lara, nothing will change in Mihika's look and characterization. Likewise, Vinay Pathak too will return as Manu Gupta, the loud sari seller from Chandni Chowk, a quintessential motormouth Dilliwallah.
Talking about his character, Vinay Pathak tells a daily, "I had put on 15 kgs for the earlier film, this time I'm almost there. Manu is not Milkha Singh so he can be of any shape or size. Even if he weren't obese and moustached, you'd still know it was him."
So, true Vinay! The unique pairing of Lara Dutta and Vinay Pathak in Chalo Dilli worked for the movie, and together they might churn out a laugh riot on big screen once again.
While the makers are gung-ho about the sequel, the original director Shashant Shah never thought of a second part. Newcomer Shashanka Ghosh has an idea for the sequel, and Lara and her husband Mahesh Bhupathi find it interesting.
The movie is going to be shot in a few months with hardly any breaks in between.
