Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone is tipped to play the role of Saina Nehwal in a biopic on the champ shuttler.
Buzz in tinselville is that Mahesh Bhatt is planning a film on Saina Nehwal, the ace Badminton player who did India proud by winning Bronze medal at London Olympics 2012. Though no official confirmation of the casting has come from Bhatt yet, Saina Nehwal wants Deepika to play the role.
“I think only Deepika Padukone can do justice to my onscreen image. Firstly, people should be able to connect with the character and given Deepika's popularity, she would be perfect for the role,” Nehwal said recently at a public event.
A lot of qualities make Deepika perfect for the lead role in Nehwal’s biopic. First and foremost, she is the daughter of the former Badminton champ Prakash Padukone. Then, Deepika Padukone herself is a good Badminton player and has played at the national level. She is also gifted with a sportsperson’s physique.
Saina Nehwal has seen Deepika play the game and she liked her strokes and bends and moves.
So even though the biopic on Nehwal is in its nascent stage, a nod for Deepika from none other than Saina herself would certainly make Bhatt think about roping in the Chennai Express star. After all, it’s hard to imagine anyone else play the role.
