The Sunday holiday worked in Holiday’s favour. On Friday, the film opened to mixed critical reviews and a fair enough start at around 3500 theatres in India. The business didn’t show much growth on Saturday. But Sunday came as a boon.
Here are the figures:
Friday: Rs. 12.18 crore
Saturday: Rs. 12.34 crore
Sunday: Rs. 16.80 crore
Opening weekend total: Rs. 41.32 cr net on India box office only
This is Akshay Kumar’s fifth best opening ever and the fourth best opening film of the year 2014.
Since Holiday - A Soldier Is Never Off Duty is a big budget venture, it had to notch up more than Rs. 40 crore in the first weekend to be par for the course to recover costs and be profitable. It has notched up that figure.
Overseas, too, the response to the film has largely been positive, with the cumulative collection from shows abroad recording the Rs. 10.61 crore net.
All in all, Holiday - A Soldier Is Never Off Duty has done well so far, but much depends on how it fares during the weekdays. ApunKaChoice will keep you posted.
