So the big question that begs to be asked is: will the film make it to the 100 crore club? ApunKaChoice takes a look at the box office dynamics to predict the A.R. Murugadoss film’s fate.
For starters, Holiday - A Soldier Is Never Off Duty has passed the Monday test with flying colours. It minted Rs. 8.02 crore net on Monday and followed it with Rs. 7.03 crore net on Tuesday. The five-day collection of the film stands at Rs. 56.37 crore at the Indian box office. So far so good. But since it is a big budget film with the distributers paying a hefty premium, it’s too early to celebrate or label the film a hit.
What will put the movie on the course for a Hit status is its second weekend (very crucial) and its second week.
Since the coming Friday sees the release of small budget films like Fugly (which is co-produced by Akshay Kumar) and Machhli Jal Ki Rani Hai, the collections of Holiday won’t be dented much. Which is good news.
ApunKaChoice expects the film to cross the Rs. 65 crore mark by Thursday, which will make it the second highest first-week collection for an Akshay Kumar starrer after Rowdy Rathore. We also expect Holiday - A Soldier Is Never Off Duty to reach the ballpark of Rs 75-80 crore by Monday next week.
Much will depend upon how Holiday holds ground at the box office Monday onwards. If it does, it will cross the coveted Rs. 100 crore mark. We at ApunKaChoice feel it will just scrape past the century of crores.
So far, Year 2014 has seen only two films entering the 100 crore club: Jai Ho and 2 States.
