“She's a flame waiting for the spark to form over again.” Was this Canterbury song the inspiration behind Anushka Sharma’s green gown meant especially for her opening scene in Bombay Velvet? It seems so!
The first look of Anushka Sharma in her super glam avatar from the movie is out. Though the picture only shows her back and the train of her splendid gown, the viewers can get a feel of the lavish setting of Bombay Velvet -- the dream project of Anurag Kashyap.
The dress worn by Anushka Sharma in this shot is not a simple creation. The green and gold gown with heavy sequin work is designed by Niharika Bhasin Khan for the opening song in the period drama. The floor-sweeping train is covered in flames, and Anushka carried it off with a little help from others as it weighed almost 35 kgs.
Niharika Bhasin Khan, the National Award-winning designer of The Dirty Picture fame has earlier worked with Anushka on her 2010 film Band Baaja Baarat. The designer says that weight was not the only challenge they faced.
“The prep was on for a year but the dress was damaged in transit. The upper half was ruined in the Sri Lanka rains. We had to re-do the damaged part,” says Niharika who designed a total of 144 outfits for Anushka’s character in the film.
Starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead, Bombay Velvet is now slated to release on 28th November instead of December.
