Sex sells. The maxim’s proved yet again with Bollywood’s latest erotic thriller-cum-revenge saga Hate Story 2 which is off to a flyer at the box office.
The film starring Surveen Chawla, Sushant Singh and Jay Bhanushali minted Rs. 5.46 crore net at the Indian box office, surpassing the expectations of the trade pundits and critics who panned it as just another exploitative raunch-fest.
Just to give you the perspective, Hate Story 2 has opened better than other releases like Highway, Hasee Toh Phasee or even Bhootnath Returns. Its opening is almost twice of the previous part Hate Story.
Hate Story 2 is faring best in North India, followed by Central India. The occupancy recorded in the theatres ranged from 40 percent to 60 percent across the board. At this rate, the film should rake in around Rs. 17 crore to 20 crore in its opening weekend. Fabulous.
The coming week would see the arrival of a storm at the box office with Salman Khan’s Kick. It goes without saying that the film is up for a bumper start. We’ll see if it sets new box office records. Watch this space.
