Acting isn’t rocket science, but it takes a lot of sweat, tears and sometimes blood to get to where Ranbir Kapoor today is happily poised. Agreed that unlike ‘outsiders’ in the industry he didn’t have to queue up outside producers’ doors to get his first break. When one is born into Bollywood’s first family, the Kapoors, getting a foot in the door to stardom is easier than playing hopscotch.

As soon as he crossed his teens and grew into a strapping, handsome man, Ranbir took to assisting Sanjay Leela Bhansali, in bargain cementing his place in the director’s film Saawariya. Not many newcomers dare to drop the towel and bare their butt in their first film. But Ranbir did that. More importantly, he wasn’t just a poster boy banking on his looks and family name. He showed a sparkle of his talent, which, some would say, is in his genes.

It’s often said that ‘All great pursuits begin with failure’. So was it for Ranbir. His first movie bombed and it seemed he was just another star son who burnt out at the start itself. Wrong! Ranbir bounced back big time with his second film Bachna Ae Haseeno and his career graph since then has only gone one way - /|

This year, the actor has already secured two hits under his belt - Wake Up Sid and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. Now, he eyes a hat-trick with the Yashraj Films’ latest presentation Rocket Singh - Salesman of the Year.

So confident is the film’s producer Aditya Chopra about Ranbir’s crowd-pulling abilities that the banner isn’t going hammer and tongs at the film’s promotion, like it normally does. And it goes without saying that playing a Sikh youth in a film by Shimit Amin, who’s known as a stickler for perfection, wasn’t a cakewalk for the Kapoor lad. Apart from the external makeover, the challenge for Ranbir was to think and feel like a struggling salesman surpassing the hurdles on the way to success.

If ‘Rocket Singh’ hits the bulls-eye at box office, it won’t be a small step but a giant leap for the actor who’s beginning to make the Bollywood producers feel like they’ll have pocket mein rocket if they sign him.
