A R Rahman wins two Grammys

Just under a year after he bagged two Oscar awards for his compositions in Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire, Indian music composer, rather wizard, A R Rahman has won two awards at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday.

Rahman’s score in the film won the Best Compilation Soundtrack for a motion picture and his song ‘Jai ho’ was awarded the Best Motion Picture Song. Rahman beat tough competition from Bruce Springsteen whose composition ‘The Wrestler’ was also nominated in the Best Song category.

“This is insane! God is great again,” Rahman said in his acceptance speech for the second award.

Rahman shares the Grammy for ‘Jai Ho’ with the song’s lyricist Gulzar.

Meanwhile, the Grammy night doubtlessly belonged to Beyonce Knowles, who bagged as many as 6 trophies and created history by becoming the first female artist to win half a dozen awards on the same night in Grammy’s 52 year history. In 2004, she had won five Grammys for her debut album ‘Dangerously in Love’.
