Right Yaaa Wrong - Movie Review Right Yaaa Wrong
The man with ‘dhai kilo ka haath’ is confined to a wheelchair for most part of the movie. But it doesn’t tick you off, for the flick Right Yaaa Wrong is not one of those raw, slambang Sunny Deol slugfests but more of a cerebral whodunit with a twist in the tale.

Ajay (Sunny Deol) and Vinay (Irrfan Khan) are two brave cops rounding up the criminals. Each approaches his duty differently. Ajay believes in reforming the criminals but Vinay is doggedly dedicated to what’s right, which to him is locking up the lawbreakers behind bars. At home, Ajay’s beautiful and evidently younger wife Anshita (Eesha Koppikar) is secretly having an extra-marital affair with Ajay’s step brother, Sanjay (Aarav Chowdhary).

Ajay’s life takes a hit when he’s seriously injured in a mission and confined to a wheelchair. A depressed Ajay hatches a plot to end his life and asks his wife and step-brother to help him carry out the plan. But what seems like a flawless plan goes haywire. Somebody is indeed killed. But who? And, who’s the killer?

‘Right Yaaa Wrong’ takes off rather ordinarily but slips into a tight strait as drama and suspense thicken up. The momentum begins to build right from the moment Sunny is partially paralyzed. His meticulous planning of his own murder, how it goes wrong, and how he becomes a suspect in the eyes of his one-time partner Vinay makes for an engrossing watch. The second half also sees Konkona Sen Sharma as Vinay’s lawyer sister who sides with Ajay and defends him in the court. Cop against cop, and sister against brother. It’s a tangle.

Credit must be given to director Neeraj Pathak for making a fairly engrossing film that keeps a viewer glued for most part of its running time despite looking a tad staid (it’s been three years in the making). The courtroom scenes could have done without melodrama and the songs might simply have been edited out. Even the morality debate between right ya wrong sounds preachy at times. But hats off to Irrfan Khan who turns out to be the scene-stealer in this thriller. His portions with Sunny are the film’s USP. Konkona has a small role but makes her presence felt while Eesha Koppikar looks gorgeous and acts well.

In the mood for a taut thriller? Give ‘Right Yaaa Wrong’ a shot.
