A voyeuristic trip through Dibakar Banerjee's eye

No other film has delved so deeply into the subject of voyeurism as director Dibakar Banerjee’s Love Sex Aur Dhokha seems to have. From sex to suicide, everything is shown from the point of view of a camera that’s all but a character in the story.

“We are all being watched in the shopping malls, stations and airports. CCTV cameras keep an eye on us all the time. And then there’s the internet where anyone can upload videos captured on mobile phones. This phenomenon interested me,” says Dibakar Banerjee while talking about the film, slated to release on March 19.

The movie has three stories and the camera plays an important part in each. The first one is about a filmmaking school graduate who falls in love with his heroine while shooting his first movie. The second is about a young couple whose sex clip is put on the internet. And the third is about a sting operation to expose the casting couch phenomena.

The camerawork throughout the film has been kept deliberately shaky and hand-held to make the movie look realistic and voyeuristic.

And though Dibakar doesn’t deny that LSD has its share of steamy scenes, he says it’s wrong to classify it as a skin flick, adding that those who go to theatres only to see a raunchy sex scene will be disappointed.
