It’s a Wonderful Afterlife - Movie Preview Its a Wonderful After Life
An Indian mother wants her only daughter to get married and settle down. But, it isn’t that easy for Mrs. Sethi, played by Shabana Azmi in the movie It's a Wonderful Afterlife.

After a long hiatus comes a movie from the director of Bend It Like Beckham. NRI filmmaker Gurinder Chadha has again tried to strike a chord with the Indian society through the story of Mrs. Sethi trying hard to find a suitable groom for her fat and dull daughter Roopi (Goldy Notay). However, the suitors who come to see her are put off by her weight and her broken engagement. Mrs. Sethi then goes on a killing spree. She uses her culinary skills and murders all those suitors who rejected her daughter. Then a police hunt begins for the serial murderer who uses a killer curry as the ultimate weapon of crime.

On the other hand, Mrs. Sethi doesn’t feel guilty until the spirits of her victims come back to haunt her. They are unable to be reincarnated until their murderer dies. Mrs. Sethi must kill herself to free the spirits, but vows to get her daughter married off before this. The spirits realize that helping Roopi find a suitable husband before the police catch Mrs. Sethi is in their best interests, and everyone begins to work together. Meanwhile, Roopi catches the eye of the young Sergeant Raj (Sendhil Ramamurthy) who is investigating the case.

Gurinder again tries to bring a heart-warming film to us. ‘It’s a Wonderful Afterlife’ is a kind of horror-comedy which uses satirical and ‘Ealing’-style humour. Depicting life amongst the Asian community in Britain, it is set in the London suburb of Southall.

The movie releases this Friday, May 7.
