Mani Ratnam to be awarded at Venice film fest
Glory to the filmmaker

Recognizing the immense contribution director Mani Ratnam has made to contemporary Indian cinema, the director of the Venice Film Festival announced on Monday that the celebrated filmmaker will be honoured with Jaeger-LeCoultre Glory to the Filmmaker Award in September.

The announcement came at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival where Ratnam’s latest film Raavan was showcased.

Venice Film Festival director Marco Muller said: “Mani Ratnam is one of the greatest innovators in contemporary Indian cinema. He helped introduce the auteur concept to contemporary Bollywood. We are very proud to honour the work of the great Indian director Mani Ratnam.”

Ratnam will be awarded at the Venice Film Festival to be held from September 1 to 11, during which both the Hindi and Tamil versions of the film will be screened.
