A promotional music video for Kurbaan was shot just on the film’s leading man Saif Ali Khan. But while shooting the video at Mukesh Mills earlier this week, both director Rensil D’Silva and Saif realized that Kareena Kapoor, the leading lady, had to be in the video.
It wasn’t a usual video shoot. There weren’t blinding strobe lights or semi-clad babes doing pelvic thrusts. Rather, a dark, surreal ambience was created and the dancers, choreographed by Bosco, struck meditative poses for the camera.
To encapsulate the serious theme of ‘Kurbaan’ in the video, D’Silva and producer Karan Johar had decided to shoot the song ‘Kurbaan Hua’ in a distinct way. Initially they thought Kareena wouldn’t be needed in the video, but when the shoot was on, the director and Saif agreed that Kareena couldn’t be omitted.
Since Bebo was shooting for another film at the moment, she wasn’t available for the video. However, D’Silva included the clips of Kareena from the film in the song.
The cocktail is learnt to have turned out very well.
“The impact is potent…Kareena’s the soul of the film,” D’Silva is quoted as saying.
‘Kurbaan’ has Kareena playing a psychology professor in the US. She comes to India to help an ailing family member, but falls in love with Saif who is a professor at a local university. As the two get married and move to US, Kareena realizes that there’s more to her hubby than meets the eye. The film is a love story with a terrorism angle.
