The secret behind younger Aamir

When a 44-year-old actor with an acute eye for details sets out to play a character half his age, you can rest assured that no stone would be left unturned in pursuit of perfection. That’s what Aamir Khan did while playing his character Rancho in director Rajkumar Hirani’s film 3 Idiots.

Apart from “feeling” his character (as Aamir would say), the star wanted to physically look younger and adopt the body language of a guy in his early twenties. So, Aamir started observing younger people. He observed the friends of his son Junaid, but was mostly inspired by his nephew Pablo (director-producer Mansoor Khan’s son) who is so restless that he “can’t stand still even for a few minutes,” as Aamir puts it.

Aamir keenly observed Pablo’s behaviour and incorporated many traits into his Rancho. The superstar was also inspired by Ghajini director A R Murugadoss who is a young, short man brimming with excitement all the time.

Not just mannerisms, Aamir also began wearing baggy Tees to dress up like a youngster.

How convincing was this leap back from 44 to 22, we will see when the film releases this Christmas.
