Comedy is a serious business. Pardon the cliché at the outset but Katrina Kaif, for the first time in her career, is set to tickle the funny bone in this Friday’s release Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. The stunner has so far been just an eye-candy in comedy films she’s done with the likes of Akshay Kumar or Salman Khan. Now, Katrina gets to show her comic flair for the very first time.
In the movie, she plays a clueless Catholic girl who is dramatic and hysterical. She gives a lot of importance to her self. She takes even the smallest of her problems too seriously.
It’s a funny character that might have turned out disastrous on screen if played unconvincingly by an actor. But Kat took on the challenge and she was helped by director Rajkumar Santoshi at every step of the way.
“Raj ji had to show me how to do the broad comedy from Andaz Apna Apna, which Salman and Aamir had done earlier. He would actually show me how to gesticulate and roll my eyes. Once I got the hang of it, I was fine,” Katrina said in an interview.
Though being funny on camera was one thing, Katrina did show flashes of good humour on the sets. While shooting a scene in which Ranbir Kapoor saves her from goons, he accidentally ended up punching Katrina’s nose. Katrina immediately retorted: “Ranbir, are you trying to save me from the goons or are you saving the goons from me.”
Everyone on the sets burst out in laughter.
Well, the gal sure can be funny in life. But can she be in a film?
