India vs Pakistan semifinal match is just a few hours away, and the cricket fever has engulfed the entire nation. Time and again Bollywood too has tried to cash in on the popularity of cricket and has delivered several films on the gentleman’s game in the past.
When we talk about cricket and Bollywood, the first film that comes to mind is obviously Lagaan. This 2001 Hindi film made history. It not only became a blockbuster but was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Last year, cricket was the main theme for Yashraj’s film Dil Bole Hadippa. It showed that not only boys are cricket maniacs but even girls. Nagesh Kukunoor, famous for making engaging dramatic films, won accolades when he portrayed a deaf and mute boy keen to play cricket in his award winning film Iqbal. Not to forget Kapil Dev made a special appearance in the film.
