The Little Master's Long Journey
It was a long journey to realize a dream that Sachin Tendulkar had harboured since his fledgling days in the late 1980s.

Geniuses aren’t born but made. Ever since the 15-year-old boy with frizzy hair-do practiced day and night in the nets and won the bets with his friends who failed to bowl him out, a dream took root in that head of the stout teenager. To play for Team India and win the Cricket World Cup one day.

One part of his dream was to realize soon but the other would take 21 long years to come true. It has been a long, long wait but, looking back now, it was worth it.

As India won the World Cup 2011 after beating Sri Lanka at Tendulkar’s home turf, the little master was beaming with pride and joy of a man who had traversed for years through the rough and smooth to finally arrive at the destination, to finally see the dream turn real.

“Winning the World Cup is the ultimate thing and I could not have asked for anything more,” beamed an emotional Tendulkar after India lifted the cup at Wankhede Stadium. Moments earlier, tears had welled up his eyes. “Those were happy tears, and I wouldn’t mind them,” Tendulkar said.
