Nandana Sen has been known from the start as a woman with little inhibition, and her dare-bare act in Rang Rasiya has tickled the curiosity of many.
But the actress feels that nudity can be for depicted for different reasons. There could, for one, be outright exploitative nudity in which skin is shown for mere titillation. But there could be a higher reason and purpose to going nude, feels Nandana.
“Nudity can be depicted in two ways - when you present a women's body as an object then it's demeaning to a women. The way a woman's body has been presented in this film (Rang Rasiya), it celebrates the power of women,” said Nandana in Kolkata.
The much delayed Ketan Mehta film Rang Rasiya was screened on Tuesday at Kolkata Film Festival where it received an overwhelming response from movie buffs.
The film recreates the story of the 19th century Indian painter Raja Ravi Varma. Nandana plays his muse Sugandha Bai who even posed nude for some of his paintings.
Rang Rasiya has been ready since 2008, but hasn’t released yet. It is now expected to hit the theatres in February 2012.
