Will Rekha and Jaya Bachchan get along in Rajya Sabha?

The proceedings in Rajya Sabha may acquire a different undertone with the nomination of yesteryear actress Rekha to the Upper House of the Parliament. Will she and Jaya Bachchan get along? is the question many seem to be asking.

We don’t need to inform you about the strained equation between the two ladies. Though the two have put up a friendly face for each other at some public events (check out images ahead) -- with Rekha going as far as hugging Jaya Bachchan and calling her ‘didi’ (sister) -- the bitter past with its raging rumours of a clandestine affair between Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha has apparently continued to fester between the two ladies.

Now that Rekha has accepted her nomination to Rajya Sabha, the rumour mills have clunked back to life with speculations that Jaya Bachchan wants to avoid Rekha inside the august house.

It is learnt that Jaya Bachchan has requested a change of seat in Rajya Sabha because Rekha’s seat is close to hers. Rekha has reportedly been allotted the seat number 99 while Jaya is on 91. But Jaya wants to be shifted next to her Samajwadi Party fellow Kiranmoy Nanda who’s seated at 143.

Though it is being speculated that Jaya doesn’t want to sit anywhere close to Rekha in Rajya Sabha, we refrain from jumping to such conclusions.

The distant past between them notwithstanding, the two ladies have bonded publicly on more occasion than one. And though some of it might have been feigned, not all of it was just for the cameras, we think.

The two were spotted chatting amicably at a book launch in 2010. We present you some of the photos, starting from the one above. There are also pics of how Amitabh Bachchan snubbed Rekha at an award function a few years ago. It’s a must-watch!
