The film has Imran Khan playing a rustic Haryanvi lad Matru, with a bushy beard, pierced ears, Ray-Ban aviators, a beedi between the lips, and a crass tongue. Anushka Sharma, feisty as ever, plays Bijlee, a bindaas girl who doesn’t mind going for a swim in the village talaab, wearing nothing but, as Matru calls it, “kachcha” and “baniyaan”.
“Kitni baar samjhaya tujhe, yun kachcha, baniyaan pehenke mat jaya kar talaab mein,” Matru politely chides his Bijli. She rejoinds, “Jee toh, kya utar ke jaya karoon, kachcha ke baniyaan”.
Pankaj Kapur plays a tippler named Mandola. He’s a whacky character who shakes his booty with abandon, fires guns, swims underwater and flies a plane.
The melee includes a bunch of balaclavaed goons out to commit some crime. There is also a strange pink buffalo that flashes a smile to the camera.
The first trailer of Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola features snatches from the title song that has Imran Khan and Anushka Sharma grooving with Pankaj Kapur. There’s also a cozy verbal exchange between Kapur and Shabana Azmi in a field. Not to be missed is the kiss between Imran and Anushka.
All in all, the trailer packs in enough fun moments for you to look forward to Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola when it hits the theatres on January 11, 2013.
