‘Student Of The Year’ is a youth flick about friendship, love, envy, and competition

The road from youth to adulthood is paved with myriad emotions and Student Of The Year celebrates this colorful coming of age. The movie introduces three newcomers: Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Siddharth Malhotra.

The film tells the story of three friends who traverse the path of competition, envy, triumph, failure, manipulation and heartbreak in their mini-universe of St. Teresa’s High School, Dehradun. SOTY is directed by Karan Johar and co-produced by Shahrukh Khan.

The highlight of Student Of The Year is its three newcomers. Siddharth Malhotra is a model who came to Mumbai five years ago with the dream of acting in a film. He worked as an assistant director under Karan Johar for My Name Is Khan. It was on the sets of My Name Is Khan that Siddharth met and got to know his co-actor Varun Dhawan as he too was an assistant director on the film.

Varun Dhawan, son of filmmaker David Dhawan, has been a part of the film industry right from the start. He idolizes Shahrukh Khan, and regards Karan Johar as his guru.

“Karan is like a guru to me. Whatever I have learned is from him. I have a personal relationship with him. If he asks me to do something, I will do it. I trust him blindly,” says Varun.

Alia Bhatt, Mahesh Bhatt-Soni Razdan's daughter, too regards Karan as her mentor.

Student Of The Year also stars Boman Irani's son Kayoze Irani and actress Sana Saeed, who played Shahrukh Khan's daughter in "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai". Rishi Kapoor plays an important role in SOTY.
