After directing the critically-acclaimed Delhi Heights, and the forgettable Jugaad, director Anand Kumar is back with another riveting story. This time his movie is set in the UP city of Ghaziabad. With an ensemble star-cast featuring the likes of Sanjay Dutt, Vivek Oberoi and Arshad Warsi, Anand visits the Ghaziabad of 1990s when gang wars were all the rage and there was no fear of law.
In recent times, Bollywood has produced some cult gangster films, be it Satya or Gangs Of Wasseypur 1 & 2. Now more and more producers are keen to work on gangster films. According to Anand, the idea for Zila Ghaziabad came to him when a friend told him a story about two warring Gurjar groups. However, later as the story developed the director found himself engrossed in more characters.
The trailer of the film clearly establishes the three main heroes of the film -- Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi and Vivek Oberoi. Sanjay Dutt gets to play the role of daring police officer Pritam Singh Chauhan, while Arshad Warsi and Vivek Oberoi will be seen as the leaders of two Gurjar gangs. If Arshad gets into the skin of the character Mahendra Fauji Bainsla, an ex-serviceman of Indian Army, who later became a criminal, Vivek is Satbir Gurjar, a well-educated man, but he works against the law.
If the plotline seems dry to you, the makers of the film have added enough Bollywood tadka. In between the trailer, the audiences can catch the glimpses of actresses Minissha Lamba, Shriya Saran and also Geeta Basra. While Geeta Basra and Shriya Saran are item girls, Minissha has a crucial role to play.
Surprisingly the list of characters doesn’t end here. Paresh Rawal as a politician also shows up in the trailer, and don’t be shocked to see Chandrachur Singh as well.
The film is said to be a biopic on the life of Mahendra Fauji, a man who used to enjoy immense popularity in the area of Ghaziabad, but the director has contemporized the story and added fictional elements too.
Zila Ghaziabad is releasing February 22. As for now, get to know the characters of the film here:
