Aatma - feel it around you
The poster of Aatma was an interesting one, and now comes the riveting trailer. Director Suparn Verma, who has directed films like Acid Factory and Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena, is coming up with a horror film for the first time, and he has tried every bit to steer clear of the clichés of the genre.
Aatma, as the name suggests, is about a spirit, but who’s the spirit here? From the poster it wasn’t clear, but after watching the trailer you will be surprised to see the talented Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the ghost spirit. The trailer first introduces Bipasha Basu as the doting mother, and her only daughter is her life. Nawaz’s character is shown first as an abusive husband, but he dies and later returns to haunt his wife and his only mission is to take away his daughter along with him.
Bipasha Basu as the petrified wife and a protecting mother is impressive. Aatma may prove a milestone in her career. Moreover, she has an actor like Nawazuddin Siddiqui opposite her. The trailer also has various spooky moments between Bipasha and Nawaz -- especially when the two are in bed -- making it more intriguing. The sub layers in the movie’s plotline are also evident through the first promo.
Now something about the crew: the movie’s DOP is Sophie Winqvise, who is from Denmark, and her mentor is Oscar winning cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle of Slumdog Millionaire fame. The music is by Sangeet and Siddarth Haldipur.
Aatma will release on March 22. Catch the first trailer:
