Life of Pi
For cinephiles, the year 2013 was special for more than one reason. Indubitably, the movie lovers witnessed the release of some splendid films; what was encouraging to see was the fact that the films nominated for the Oscars not only garnered critical acclaim, but also raked in some whopping numbers at the box office -- something that does not happen quite often in the case of Oscar-nominated films (Remember how last year of all the nominations for the Best Picture only The Help managed to cross $US100 million!)

While one does not even need to mention how all the nine nominees for the Best Picture category managed to woo the critics, Ang Lee’s Life of Pi surpassed all box office expectations too; the film has raked in about $US600 million worldwide, and still counting. Clearly, quality work earns...err...speaks for itself.

Starring Suraj Sharma, Irrfan Khan, Adil Hussain and Tabu in the lead roles, Life of Pi centres on a young man, Pi Patel, who survives a disaster at sea. The epic journey of adventure and discovery offers a visual spectacle and is touted as one of the best 3D films ever made.
