Aala Re Aala
Alright, in case you are confused let us clarify that Shootout At Wadala is not a compilation of item songs but a feature film with a story and a leading man. Having said that, here’s the third item song from the film starring Sophie Choudry.
‘Aala Re Aala’ has John Abraham as the 1980s’ gangster Manya Surve loping into a seedy cabaret dressed like a runaway cowboy from some forgotten Hollywood western. Sophie Choudry is the siren shaking her leg, and much else, and lip synching words like “Aag lagi hai, dhuan uttha hai, ishq mohabbat wala, kisne meri jaan chura li, kisne maar daaa”. Like that?
In no time, John Abraham, as the hatted Manya Surve joins the song and the jig, beats his breast, kicks the chair, flips out a kerchief, and goes “Aala re aala, Manya aala”. Like that?
The lighting in the song is pretty dark and the camera lingers on one too many silhouettes of the pretty Sophie Choudry.
What you might like -- we did! -- is that in its second verse the song slips into a qawwali mode. What you wouldn’t like -- we didn’t -- is the choreography in the song. It’s simply laughable. Mika and Sunidhi Chauhan, however, do add verve into this Anu Malik track with their singing.
So you see, there is some fun to be had from this new item song from Shootout At Wadala. Sophie Choudry may not be the item girl to scorch the screens, but hey! John’s no foot-juggler like Hrithik either. Still, you will like his stiff moves.
